Application Guide

The primary functions of TrackMyTrains.com are in the "collection management application" portion of the website. The usual way to get to this is by selecting "My Collection" after signing in on the member page.

The application functions can also be seen by choosing one of the free demonstrations or, restricted to the viewing functions only, when coming in through a visitor sign in.

The collection management application organizes the functions it provides into five primary areas:

Finding and displaying information in your database
Adding new information to your database
Changing existing database information
Defining and creating reports of information in your database
Defining and downloading extract data files from your database

These functions are navigated by means of the "left menu bar" which appears on the left side of each page in the application. This Application Guide, which explains the use of each function in detail, is organized into the same 5 functional areas. In addition, we also explain the function of granting view only access rights to visitors you may want to allow to look at your Wish List, For Sale List, or entire collection.

You can read this application guide sequentially, go to any subject area of interest to you by clicking on the topic in the Table of Contents below, or go to the "Getting Started" section of this guide and then click on the function option corresponding to the left menu bar.

This application guide focuses on functions. An equally important section of the Help content is the Database guide, which focuses on the database structure, contents, and intended usage. Please refer to this companion guide document to ensure a full understanding of the power of TrackMyTrains.com.

Also, as you become more familiar with the system's design and capabilities, be sure to look at Tips & Techniques for useful hints on getting the most out of TrackMyTrains.com and fully enjoy the benefits of a well-organized collection.

Note: You should never attempt or allow multiple simultaneous sign-ins using your member account either on the same or different computers. This can cause serious problems with the integrity of your collection database.
