Setting Up Visitors to Your Website Collection

TrackMyTrains.com provides the ability for members allow visitors to their collections. Visitors can be granted access to one or more of three specialized views of your collection:

  • Wish List access permits visitors to view items that have been set up with an inventory record with the Wish List box checked. Only Item information is displayed on the Wish List View.
  • Items for Sale access permits visitors to view items that have been set up with an inventory record with the For Sale box checked. Only item information and certain other descriptive information such as condition and asking price are displayed in the For Sale List View.
  • Entire Collection access permits visitors view only access to all data fields and records in your collection.

Visitor access is arranged through the My Member Profile page, which is the second option presented on the member clubhouse page (the page displayed after member sign-in). Near the bottom of the member profile page is the section entitled "Collection Information Sharing Preferences" with a table that contains rows for a visitor sign in name and a password and three check mark boxes corresponding to the above visitor view options. Click on the "Edit" button to put the table in edit mode and then assign names and passwords for your visitors and check the views for which that visitor will be eligible. When you have finished your additions or changes, click save to update your visitor authorizations.

We recommend that you share single sign in / passwords for classes of visitors (such as all those you will allow to view your for sale list) rather than creating an entry for each individual person. Unlike the member sign-in, there is no problem with multiple visitors sharing the same name and password at the same time to view your collection.
